We're changing things up, here's what's happening:
Change of rehearsal venue
African Caribbean Centre – Maidstone Rd, Leicester LE2 0UA
Accessible by public transport and walking distance of the city centre and train station
Change of rehearsal time
Thursdays between 7pm and 9pm, starting on 19th September 2024
Other than that, we are the same friendly, open choir we've always been - "Amika" means "friendly" in Esperanto, it's literally in our name!
No experience is needed as we learn by ear (but we provide sheet music, too)
We sing songs from around the world in 4-part harmony and would love you to join us.

- Workshop - Songs from Africa and the African Diaspora

Led by Una May Olomolaiye, the first Musical Director of Leicester Amika Choir, this was a very popular workshop with gospel, Tamla Motown, traditional African songs and more. Singers were taken across Africa and black communities worldwide!

- Sing Away Community Choir Festival

We are delighted to announce that Amika was performing at the Sing Away Community Choir Festival on 7th May 2023.
The event was a fun day of singing and performances by a variety of choirs, including Amika.
This event is inspired by the choir festival that used to be held in Stratford-upon-Avon at which, sadly, was brought to a close a couple of years ago.
So come along and sing with us next year!

- Big changes at Amika!

There have been a lot of changes going on at Amika these past several months.
As you can see, we have a new website, but we also have a new rehearsal venue.
After months of rehearsing on Zoom because of COVID and other things outside the choir's control, the place that we now call home is the Woodgate Resources Centre in Frog Island, Leicester.
So don't be shy, drop in and sing with us!
